Romantic Garden Wedding | Abernethy Center

Hannah and Jake chose Abernethy Center at Abigail’s Garden for their romantic garden party wedding in June. The lush greenery and blooming flowers provided a stunning backdrop for the ceremony under a beautiful willow tree and white gazebo adorned with gorgeous florals done by Jodi Iverson Florals. The reception area was decorated with twinkle lights and even more charming floral arrangements, giving it a romantic and whimsical feel, with delicious food and lively music that kept guests dancing all night long. It was a celebration of love, joy, and new beginnings, and it was an honor to be a part of!

From the couple:

What did you love about your wedding location/venue?

I absolutely adore our ceremony space under the white gazebo with the flowing willow tree behind it. It was so picturesque and perfect. I loved the convenience of our venue, and how easy they made things. Having catering, tables and chairs, linens, etc. included meant less decisions we had to make. By the end of the planning process I was very thankful I did not have to coordinate those separately!

What was your wedding inspiration?

Neither of us had envisioned what we wanted our wedding day to look like until planning ours. It was nice because it allowed us to look at different styles and themes together and figure out what felt authentic to us. We were drawn to the outdoor garden style, and I knew I wanted a lot of flowers.

How many guests did you have?

Our total guest count ended up being right around 100! I think it was a great number, we were able to visit and chat with nearly every guest, yet it still felt like a big party.

Tell me about your outfits!

I first tried on my wedding dress at a boutique in downtown Portland. I wasn’t “clicking” with anything I had tried on, when a bridal assistant walked past my room carrying what would be my dress. It immediately grabbed my attention, and my stylist asked if I wanted to try it on. It was fate! I immediately loved how it was soft and flowy with the perfect whimsical sleeves.

What ended up being your favorite part of the day?

My favorite part of the day was our entrance to the reception space and sitting down to enjoy the end of cocktail hour. We were finally able to sit, talk in private, relax, eat delicious food, and take it all in. The cocktail hour and dinner playlists were highly curated- listening to some of our favorite music and watching our loved ones have a great time around us felt so special. The energy in the air was incredible. I did not expect it to be one of the highlights of the evening!

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?

My advice would be to stay true to yourselves and what you and your partner want for your special day. Make it a day that feels unique and representative of you as a couple. Don’t feel like you “have” to do something because it is a tradition, and don’t be afraid to break the mold and do something new. Remind yourself this throughout the planning process. It can be SO easy to be influenced by outsider opinions and social media!
